When is the testing performed?
In the case of new construction, there are two phases within the testing process. The first phase is performed before the insulation and dry-wall are installed and after all low-voltage wiring is pulled and the contact points are established. These wires are then verified for continuity and capacity to ensure availability. This is a key phase for the builder as it catches any problems while they are still relatively inexpensive to correct. If all lines pass inspection, the inspector gives the builder the go-ahead to continue. The second phase of testing happens once everything is ready for move-in. This test is similar to the one mentioned before, but now includes that of the electronic sub-systems. This is also a key phase for the builder even if no sub-systems were installed. It will uncover any problems caused during the completion of construction so they can be corrected prior to the homeowner moving into the home.
